Thank you for coming to my page! Please read below to learn more about me and how the practice came about.
A Little About Me
My name is Elizabeth Potter and I am a proud mom of a little boy, along with being a bonus mom. I have my Professional Counseling License in New York as an LMHC and in South Carolina as an LPC. Most of my counseling experience is in anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and other general mental health struggles. I have been trained in Perinatal Mental Health along with recently completing training for Infant Mental Health. I have my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have been on a journey to close the gap of Maternal Mental Health since.

My approach to counseling differs client to client as I do what is best for my client. I take a strong stance in my client-centered approaches allowing the client to always come first. I meet the client where they are at, dress comfortable most of the time to allow my clients the same level of comfort, while dedicating time to establish a relationship and good rapport with every client.

The reason I became a counselor is to help those in need when they may need it most. In my own battles with mental health struggles, I learned that I always wanted to be the person that I would have looked up to at a young age. My drive to work with the perinatal/birthing/postpartum population came when I had my own son and I left the hospital telling myself, "I wish someone would have advocated for me and just listened to me one time." This led me to believe that not many women are getting the advocacy they need during birth, let alone the tools and resources they may need upon returning home with a new baby. That's where I come in!

My specialized trainings include but do not limit to:
Perinatal Mental Health Training through PSI
Infant Mental Health Training through Zero to Three
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through MUSC
Along with Certifications in Civil Rights, Psychological First Aid, Suicide Prevention, and Mandated Reporting

Outside of my professional life, I love being a mom to BOTH of my children and my dogs. I embrace self care when I can, enjoy being outside, and find joy in the smallest things. I love being around babies, enjoy writing at times, and have an artistic side that has led art to be a lifelong outlet of mine. The name of my practice came from my love of the outdoors along with using a family name (hence the "misspelling" of Oakes) to come up with something that resembled growth, beauty, and embracing change.
I believe in the power of resilience, healing, and growth. Life has brought me challenges, but also incredible strength, and I’m passionate about helping others find their strength too.
